Many are concerned about transportation of high-level waste. In 2005 heavy rains and flooding near Lincoln County caused the rail track to crumble taking a portion of the train with it. The Caliente route is the preferred mode and designated route included in the DOE Final Environmental Impact Statement for transporting waste through Nevada.
